JOMO (Joy of Missing Out) is a physical and digital prototype created collaboratively that is designedas a shared device that neutralises phone distractions and replaces them with meaningful, guided conversation.
At the center of a group, users stack their phones and place the pad on top which connects them via Bluetooth and automatically activates Do Not Disturb. This blocks incoming notifications but allows emergency calls to get through. There are four conversation categories (Friends, Family, Date, Drink), each delivering tailored prompts.
The design is rooted in circle psychology, which highlights the idea that circular arrangements foster connection, it embraces rounded forms and vibrant colors to feel playful, warm, and inviting. JOMO transforms the anxiety of missing out into the joy of being present.
